My Goals For Oak Island And What I Stand For

Town Council needs to gain its trust back from its citizens and understand that they work for the people, not the other way around. The council needs to be transparent and utilize common sense in their decision making. We need people in charge who will interact and represent the residents of Oak Island.
We need to maintain our small town feel and work on being not just the best island in Brunswick County but the best island in N.C. People come here because Oak Island is special. We have local restaurants and shops that people get excited to see when they come back. We need to embrace our small-town feel, not get rid of it, while continuing our beautification of our main drag.
We need a long-term fix for our beaches. Throwing money away every few years on short term renourishment is just kicking the can down the road. We need to be proactive instead of reactive. We need to look at solutions that will help save our beachfront for
years to come. We need to find funds from other agencies so the bill is not put on the backs of our residents. The council needs to do their homework and work to find these solutions so our beaches are still here in the future. We also need to figure out where the funds from paid parking are going. These funds should be utilized to fix up our accesses, adding amenities, and not raising rates on our residents.
We need a council member who will work on closing loopholes in the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). I cannot blame individuals for taking advantage of these loopholes because it was the town that allowed them to be there. We need to manage our growth through an updated UDO while closing any loopholes.
We need to focus on making our roadways safer as well as finish paving the remaining streets. Those who have yet to have their streets paved feel like they were left out. We need to find funds on top of the Powell Bill money to finish paving our roads. This will help beautify our island. We also need community interaction from our first responders and enforcement of our laws. We have a great team of fire fighters, police, and water rescue as well as beach patrol, we need to support them as well as have them support the community through neighborhood interactions, thus making our town and communities safer.

If elected, I vow to work with the people and for the people of Oak Island while respecting any differences in opinions, views, and/or affiliations.

I moved to Southport 13 years ago from western PA in search of sunshine and happiness. My wife and I have lived on Oak Island for the past 3 years, but I have had family ties to the area for the past 24. I attended Cape Fear C.C. where I earned my associate's degree, and then attended UNCW (Go Hawks!) where I received my bachelor's.

I met my beautiful wife Caitlyn one evening in Wilmington, and from the very beginning, I knew she was the one. Two years ago, we tied the knot in Southport, and now, our free time is filled with traveling adventures, leisurely walks with our beloved pups, and basking in the sun, getting our dose of vitamin sea on the beach.

I am running for OKI Town Council because I strongly believe that we need a fresh perspective as well as increased accountability, transparency, and a forward-thinking, common-sense approach in our local government. My goal is to represent the people and serve as a voice of reason in our community.
